Public Holidays in Denmark 2025

Below are the public holidays in Denmark 2025. On these days, all residents of the country are entitled to a day off from work, or additional terms of payment for work (these must be specified in the employment contract). According to the 2012 Closure Act, large stores must be closed on the following public holidays:

  • January 1, 2025 (Wednesday) – New Year.
  • April 17, 2025 (Thursday) – Maundy Thursday.
  • April 18, 2025 (Friday) – Good Friday.
  • April 20, 2025 (Sunday) – Easter Sunday.
  • April 21, 2025 (Monday) – Easter Monday.
  • May 29, 2025 (Thursday) – Ascension of Christ.
  • June 8, 2025 (Sunday) – Pentecost.
  • June 9, 2025 (Monday) – Pentecost (second day).
  • December 25, 2025 (Thursday) – Christmas.
  • December 26, 2025 (Friday) – Christmas (second day).

All shops in Denmark must be closed on Constitution Day and Christmas Eve. On New Year’s Eve, they may only remain open until 3:00 p.m. The following are exceptions:

  1. Convenience stores with an annual turnover of less than DKK 43.4 million, including VAT and excise duty.
  2. Shops in car dealerships, amusement parks, zoos, etc.
  3. Shops located in airports.
  4. Construction stores.
  5. Shops located at railway and bus stations, if their amount does not exceed the established limit.
  6. Shops and markets selling fuel, cars, plants and livestock.

Official Common Flag Days in 2025

Flag days are not holidays, but are timed to coincide with significant dates. On these days, the Danish national flag (or the flag of Greenland or the Faroe Islands on the corresponding national holidays) is raised at government institutions.
