Who is Ninoy Aquino?

Benigno Simeon Aquino Jr. (Ninoy Aquino) is a Filipino politician who created and led the opposition movement in the Philippines. Openly opposed the dictatorship of Fernando Marcos. In 1972 he was imprisoned for 7 years. He has been called Marcos’ “most famous political prisoner”.

After Ninoy Aquino’s release from prison, he was forced to leave the Philippines. In 1983, he decided to return to the country to take part in the presidential elections. Upon arrival at the airport on August 21, 1983, he was shot dead.

What did Tamayuki Yamashita do?

Tomoyuki Yamashita is a Japanese general who kept the Philippines from Allied forces for over a year during World War II. For this he received the nickname “Malayan tiger”. During the capture and holding of Manila, he carried out a massacre in which more than 100,000 Filipinos and more than 16,000 Japanese soldiers and officers died.

September 2, 1945, by order of the surrendered Emperor of Japan, Tomoyuki Yamashita surrendered. He was sentenced to death by an American court. He was hanged on February 27, 1946.
