School holidays in Italy 2024-2025 – this is important to know!
Italy is divided into 20 regions. The country is very elongated from north to south. Therefore, the climate in the northern regions differs from the weather conditions in the southern regions. Also, the proximity of the sea affects the climatic conditions. Therefore, school holidays in Italy 2024-2025 in each region are different.
In addition, the number of holiday periods varies by region. Christmas holidays and Easter holidays are mandatory throughout the country. Some regions celebrate Carnival. For this purpose, Carnival holidays are introduced lasting 2-3 days. As a rule, they are adjacent to the weekend, so children rest for 4-5 days in a row.
In addition to school holidays, children (and teachers) in Italy have public holidays. There are 11 such days a year. But one public holiday falls during the summer break, and the other during the Easter holidays. Therefore, children have only 9 additional days off.
Apart from public holidays, schools are usually closed on the feast day of their patron saint (or similar). Each locality has its patron saint. On the feast day of this saint, children are excused from classes and teachers are excused from teaching. In some regions of Italy there are additional days off – bridges. These are one or two days between a public holiday and Saturday or Sunday. They are introduced so that children can rest for several days in a row. Such days are usually compensated by the length of the school year or by additional school hours.
