School holidays in Portugal 2023-2024 (all classes)
In this publication, All-Holidays.Info will cover the following topic: school holidays in Portugal 2023-2024. We will give the officially approved dates for the summer, Christmas, carnival and Easter school holidays for all classes. They also published a list of holidays with dates on which Portuguese students have no classes and schools are closed.
Below is the school holiday schedule in Portugal for the 2023-2024 school year. It was approved by order No. 8356/2022 of June 8, 2022 . Please note that the dates of the summer holidays depend on the class in which the child is studying. In addition to these holidays, the article further indicates public holidays when schoolchildren have no classes.
Summer holidays 2023 (preschool cycle, grades 1, 2, 3 and 4): from June 30 (Friday) to September 11-14, 2023.
Summer holidays 2023 (5th, 6th, 7th, 8th and 10th grades): from June 14 (Wednesday) to September 11-14, 2023.
Summer holidays 2023 (grades 9, 11 and 12): from June 7 (Wednesday) to September 11-14, 2023.
First day of school: from 12 to 15 September 2023 (check with the school administration).
Christmas holidays: from December 18, 2023 (Monday) to January 2, 2024 (Tuesday).
Carnival holidays: from 12 (Monday) to 14 (Wednesday) February 2024.
Easter holidays (Easter holidays): from March 25 to April 5, 2024.
Summer holidays 2024 (preschool and 1st cycle): from June 29, 2024 (Saturday).
Summer holidays 2024 (5th, 6th, 7th, 8th and 10th grades): from June 15, 2024 (Saturday).
Summer holidays 2024 (grades 9, 11 and 12): from June 5, 2024 (Wednesday).
Additional holiday weekends
Apart from regular holidays, all schools are closed on public holidays. There are only 14 of them, but we present those that do not fall during rest periods:
October 5, 2023 (Thursday) – Realization of the Republic.
November 1, 2023 (Wednesday) – All Saints Day.
December 1, 2023 (Friday) – Restoration of Independence.
December 8, 2023 (Friday) – Immaculate Conception.
April 25, 2024 (Thursday) – Freedom Day.
May 1, 2024 (Wednesday) – Labor Day.
May 30, 2024 (Thursday) – Corpus Christi.
June 10, 2024 (Monday) – Portugal Day.
There are also additional rest days for regional holidays in the respective territories:
June 13, 2024 (Thursday) – Saint Anthony’s Day, Lisbon.
June 24, 2024 (Monday) – Saint John’s Day, Porto.
