Features of the academic year in Czech schools
The school year in the Czech Republic is divided into two semesters. Between them, there is a half-year holiday lasting one day. As a rule, it falls on Friday. Therefore, children have a three-day break from classes – from Friday to Sunday. In total, there are five holiday periods during the school year. Here are the school holidays in the Czech Republic in 2024-2025:
- Summer holidays.
- Autumn vacation.
- Christmas Holidays.
- Spring break.
- Easter holidays.
In addition to regular school holidays, children in the Czech Republic have holidays on public holidays. As a rule, the school year is planned taking them into account. For example, officially, autumn holidays in the Czech Republic in 2024 are two days long – Tuesday and Wednesday, October 29 and 30. But taking into account the weekend and the Day of the Creation of Czechoslovakia, schools will be closed for five days in a row, from Saturday to Wednesday (from October 26 to 30).
A distinctive feature of the Czech education system is the spring break. It lasts for one week, but its dates depend on the location of the school. In this publication, we provide the official and actual dates of the school holidays 2024-2025 in the Czech Republic, determined by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports in accordance with the Education Act.
School holidays in the Czech Republic 2024-2025
Here is the schedule of school holidays 2024-2025 in the Czech Republic. Please note that the official dates may not coincide with the actual ones. For example, officially the Easter holidays last one day. But in reality, children will rest for five days in a row from Thursday to Monday.
For your convenience, we have provided both the official dates of school holidays in the Czech Republic 2024/25 and the actual ones. The exception is spring break. In order not to take up too much time, we have provided only the official dates.
- Summer holidays 2024: from Monday 1 July to Sunday 1 September 2024.
- Autumn holidays 2024: from Tuesday 29 October to Wednesday 30 October 2024. (In fact, from Saturday 26 October to Wednesday 30 October 2024).
- Christmas holidays 2024-2025: from Monday 23 December 2024 to Friday 3 January 2025. (Effectively from Monday 23 December 2024 to Sunday 5 January 2025).
- Half-year leave: Friday 31 January 2025. (In fact, from Friday 31 January to Sunday 2 February 2025).
Spring Break 2025 in the Czech Republic
Spring break in the Czech Republic in the 2024-2025 school year is divided into six periods. They last one week. The start and end date of spring break depends on the location of the school. Below we have provided a schedule of spring school breaks in Czech schools depending on the district (or district of Prague).
- From Monday, February 3 to Sunday, February 9, 2025 – Benešov, Beroun, Rokycany, České Budějovice, Český Krumlov, Klatovy, Trutnov, Pardubice, Chrudim, Svitavy, Ústí nad Orlici, Ostrava Mesto, Prostejov.
- From Monday 10 February to Sunday 16 February 2025 – Prague 1-5, Blansko, Brno-Mesto, Brno-Venkov, Breclav, Hodonin, Vyskov, Znojmo, Domažlice, Tachov, Louny, Karvina.
- From Monday 17 February to Sunday 23 February 2025 – Prague 6-10, Cheb, Karlovy Vary, Sokolov, Nymburk, Jindrichuv Hradec, Litoměřice, Decin, Přerov, Frýdek-Místek.
- From Monday, February 24 to Sunday, March 2, 2025 – Kromeriz, Uherske Hradiste, Vsetin, Zlin, Prague-East, Prague-West, Melnik, Rakovnik, Pilsen-Mest, Pilsen-North, Pilsen-South, Hradec Kralove, Teplice, Novy Jicin.
