Peculiarities of the academic year in Indonesia

In Indonesia, the school year begins in the first half of July and ends at the end of June. This country does not have the usual long summer holidays. The academic year consists of two semesters separated by holidays.

Due to the geography and climate, there is no such thing as summer in Indonesia. Therefore, the holidays after the 1st semester or semester holidays come first. The second, separating classes, are called holidays after the school year or holidays at the end of the year. Vacation dates vary by province.

About 90% of Indonesians are Muslim.. Therefore, some provinces have additional rest days. These are holidays dedicated to the beginning and end of the month of Ramadan. Lebaran, or Idul Fitri, is the Indonesian name for the holidays dedicated to the end of the holy month of Ramadan.
