School holidays in Norway 2023-2024 (all counties, official dates)
The topic of this post is school holidays in Norway 2023-2024. In it we will give the dates of summer, autumn, Christmas, winter, Easter school holidays. Holiday start and end dates are given for all counties (fylke) in Norway. All information is officially approved and obtained from official sources.
There are no general school holidays in the Kingdom. The territory of the country is divided into counties (provinces), each of which has its own schedule of the academic year. Before the reform of 2016-2020, there were 19 counties in Norway, now there are 11. In this article, we present school holidays in Norway 2023-2024 for all provinces, namely:
Agder;
Innlandet;
Møre og Romsdal;
Nordland;
Oslo;
Rogaland;
Troms og Finnmark;
Trøndelag;
Westfold og Telemark;
Westland;
Viken.
The counties are divided into communes (municipalities). Each commune can change the schedule of the academic year. As a rule, vacation dates in Norwegian schools are shifted by no more than a week. Their length can vary by several days.
Interesting fact: Oslo, the capital of Norway, is both a city, a county and a commune. Moreover, this is the second most populated province, inferior to the Viken county.
Below we list the school holidays in Norway 2023-2024. They are listed for each county. We also provided links to the official websites of the provinces or documents posted on them. If there are no force majeure circumstances (epidemics, armed conflicts, etc.), the schedule for the 2023-2024 school year in Norway will not change.
Additional holidays for Norwegian students in 2023-2024
In addition to school holidays, children in Norway take a break from school for the holidays. In total, there are 12 public holidays for the 2023-2024 academic year. 8 of them fall on Sunday or school holidays. Therefore, children in Norway have four extra days free from school:
Labor Day – May 1, 2024, Monday.
Ascension – May 9, 2024, Thursday.
Norwegian Constitution Day – May 17, 2024, Friday.
Trinity Monday – May 20, 2024, Monday.

Summer holidays 2023: from June 23 to August 16, 2023.
First day of school: August 17, 2023.
Autumn holidays: from 2 to 6 October 2023.
Christmas holidays: from December 22, 2023 to January 2, 2024.

Easter (spring) holidays: from March 25, 2024 to April 2, 2024.
