Holidays in Croatia 2023 – what you need to know?

There are only two types of significant dates in Croatia – holidays (public holidays) and commemorative days. Their dates are regulated by the Law on Holidays, Commemorative Days and Non-Working Days in the Republic of Croatia. On memorial days, everyone has a working day, but there are events dedicated to certain events. On holidays, residents of the country have an official non-working day. Schools are also closed on these dates.

Representatives of Christianity, Judaism and Islam have the right to an additional non-working day on the following dates:

  • Christians celebrating Christmas according to the Julian calendar on January 7th.
  • Christians celebrating Easter according to the Julian calendar on Easter Monday.
  • Muslims who celebrate the holidays of Ramadan Bayram and Eid al-Adha on one day of their choice for each of these holidays.
  • Jews who celebrate Yom Kippur and Rosh Hashanah on the same day of their choice for each of these holidays.

IMPORTANT! Unlike many countries, if a public holiday or religious holiday in Croatia falls on a Sunday or other non-working day, it is not rescheduled .
