There are 13 public holidays in France. Most of the French have a day off these days. The exception is representatives of certain professions or services. Police, doctors, transport workers, etc. Below is a complete list of them by month.

  • April 7, 2023 – Good Friday (Good Friday);
  • April 10, 2023 – Easter Monday.

May

  • May 1, 2023 – Labor Day;
  • May 1, 2023 – First of May;
  • May 8, 2023 – Victory Day in the Great Patriotic War;
  • May 18, 2023 – Ascension;
  • May 29, 2023 – Trinity Monday (Holy Monday).

INTERESTING FACT: in Europe, Victory Day is celebrated on May 8, and in Russia and many other countries of the socialist camp on May 9. The point is the difference in time calculation due to time zones. According to European time, the Act of unconditional surrender was signed before midnight, and according to USSR time – after.

July

  • July 14, 2023 – Bastille Day.

The Bastille fortress and prison was taken during the uprising of July 12-14, 1789. This marked the beginning of the French Revolution, which lasted until November 9, 1799. As a result of the revolution, the current government was dispersed and the Consulate was established, headed by Napoleon Bonaparte.

  • August 15, 2023 – Assumption of Mary.

  • November 1, 2023 – Toussaint, All Saints Day;
  • November 11, 2023 – Armistice Day 1918.
