What public holidays are there in Andorra
Conventionally, all holidays in Andorra can be divided into four types:
- National holidays.
- Unofficial holidays.
- Bank holidays.
- Local holidays.
National holidays are celebrated throughout the country. Their dates are set by law, on these days most of the country’s residents do not work. But many private businesses are open on national holidays, such as cafes, restaurants, shops, etc. There are only four public holidays when private and public enterprises and companies are closed:
- January 1, 2025 – New Year.
- March 14, 2025 – Constitution Day of Andorra.
- September 8, 2025 – Feast of Our Lady of Meritxell, patroness of Andorra.
- December 25, 2025 – Christmas.
Unofficial holidays are not regulated by law, they are more related to traditional holidays. Most of them are dedicated to religious events. There is no official non-working day on these dates.
Bank holidays are a mixture of national and unofficial holidays. They are timed to coincide with religious or significant events, on these days most businesses are closed and banks do not work. But officially bank holidays are not national holidays.
IMPORTANT! If a holiday falls on a Saturday or Sunday, it is not moved to another day. Usually, the celebration is held on the exact date of a national, local or bank holiday.
Local festivals are held in one or more parishes of Andorra. They may be dedicated to the patron saint of the parish, historical or religious events. Sometimes these are annual festivals that are considered national holidays, but are celebrated at the local level.

The Assumption of Mary (the Dormition of the Virgin Mary in Eastern Christianity) commemorates the Virgin Mary’s ascension into heaven at the end of her earthly life. This doctrine was formally defined as a dogma by Pope Pius XII in 1950 for the Roman Catholic Church. It is based on the belief that Mary, being free from original sin and having a unique role as the mother of Jesus, was preserved from bodily decay and was taken, body and soul, into heavenly glory. This event is not explicitly recorded in Scripture, but has been part of Christian tradition for centuries.

According to legend, the statue was discovered by shepherds in the 12th century. The original was destroyed by fire in 1972, but a copy was subsequently made.
