What you need to know about holidays in Bosnia and Herzegovina in 2025

The territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina is divided into three administrative-territorial units. Each of them has its own list of public holidays. In this publication we provide the dates of holidays for each of them, namely:

  • Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina
  • Republic of Srpska
  • Brcko District

Conventionally, all holidays in Bosnia and Herzegovina can be divided into four types:

  1. Public holidays.
  2. Local public holidays.
  3. Religious holidays.
  4. Unofficial holidays.

National holidays are celebrated throughout the country. On these dates, everyone has a day off, regardless of religion, nationality, or place of residence.

IMPORTANT! In 2025, Orthodox Easter and Catholic Easter fell on the same day. Therefore, Good Friday, Easter Sunday and Easter Monday are marked as public holidays. In other years, they are separate for Orthodox and Catholics.

Local public holidays are celebrated only in one or two entities of the country. On these dates, the territory of the corresponding administrative-territorial units is officially a non-working day. There is only one exception: Victory Day in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina is a working day.

Religious holidays give the right to a day off only for representatives of a certain religion. Dates are determined separately for Orthodox Christians, Catholics and representatives of the Islamic religion.

IMPORTANT! Two days are set aside for the end of Ramadan and Eid al-Adha. The first of these may be a full day off, or a day off starting in the evening (according to religious tradition).

Unofficial holidays are not fixed by law. Although on the dates of such days the corresponding events can be held, the residents of the country observe certain traditions.
