Austrian Holidays 2025 – Important to Know

We have divided all holidays in Austria in 2025 into three groups:

  • Federal public holidays.
  • Local public holidays.
  • Unofficial holidays.

Federal public holidays are celebrated throughout Austria. On these days, most residents of the country have an official day off. As a rule, only some private enterprises and emergency services (medical personnel, security forces, etc.) work.

Local public holidays are celebrated at the level of federal lands. They are not established by federal legislation, so they are considered public holidays only in a certain territory. The specifics of the work of state institutions are given in the description of the corresponding holiday.

Unofficial holidays are not defined by federal or local legislation. Usually, these are international, traditional or religious holidays. On these dates, organizations, enterprises, institutions and establishments work as usual (unless otherwise specified in the employment contract).

IMPORTANT! There are bank holidays in Austria. They only apply to banks, their branches and employees. For everyone else, these dates are normal working days.
