What holidays are there in Kazakhstan?

According to the law on holidays in the Republic of Kazakhstan there are three types of holidays:

National holidays.
Public holidays.
Professional holidays.

National and state holidays in Kazakhstan are non-working days. If such a holiday falls on Saturday or Sunday, the day off will be the following Monday or Tuesday. Sometimes the transfer is accompanied by the introduction of an additional day off with subsequent working off (as in the transfer of a day off from Sunday, January 5 to Friday, January 3, 2025). Their difference is as follows:

“National holidays are holidays established in the Republic of Kazakhstan to commemorate events of particular historical significance and that have made a significant contribution to the development of Kazakhstan’s statehood. The celebration of national holidays will continue with official events in central and local government bodies.”

“State holidays are holidays dedicated to events of social and political significance, as well as holidays traditionally celebrated by citizens of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The celebration of state holidays may continue with official events.”

INTERESTING FACT: There is only one national holiday in the Republic of Kazakhstan. This is the Independence Day of the Republic of Kazakhstan. To avoid confusion, we have included it in the section Public holidays in Kazakhstan 2025.

Professional holidays are dedicated to representatives of certain professions, specialties, organizations or fields of activity. Some of them are celebrated on a fixed date, others are tied to Saturday or Sunday. On such days there is no release from work or study.
