This publication will talk about school holidays in Malaysia 2023-2024. We will give the exact start and end dates for rest periods for different territories. The territory of Malaysia is divided into 16 parts. West Malaysia consists of 11 states and two federal territories, East Malaysia consists of two states and one federal territory. In four of them, the study and work weeks begin on Sunday, and in 12 – on Monday.
In order to systematize the schedule of school holidays for children in Malaysia, the country is divided into two groups. Group A includes administrative-territorial units in which the week begins on Sunday. Group B starts the week on a Monday. Accordingly, in group A non-working days are Friday and Saturday, and in group B – Saturday and Sunday.

Peculiarities of the academic year in Malaysia
The school year in Malaysian schools consists of two semesters. Each of them is divided into two periods (quarters). Between themselves they are separated by holidays. The dates of the beginning and end of the holidays are selected so that they combine two weekends. For example, in group A, holidays start on Friday, and in group B, on Saturday.
In this publication, we provide the officially approved school holidays in Malaysia 2023-2024. Their schedule is approved by the Ministry of Education.
In addition to holidays, children in Malaysia have days off from school for holidays. Their dates differ and depend on the group (A or B). There are also local holidays on which schools are closed. We will talk about them at the end of this post.

Below are the start and end dates for school holidays in Malaysia for the 2023-2024 academic year for territories in Group A.
Holidays after school year 2023: from February 17 (Friday) to March 18 (Saturday);
Intermediate holidays: from April 21, 2023 (Friday) to April 29, 2023 (Saturday);
Holidays after 1 period: from May 26, 2023 (Friday) to June 3, 2023 (Saturday);
Holidays after 2 periods: from August 25, 2023 (Friday) to September 2, 2023 (Saturday);
Holidays after 3 periods: from December 15, 2023 (Friday) to January 1, 2024 (Monday);
Holidays after school year 2024: from February 9 (Friday) to March 9 (Saturday).
Holidays for schoolchildren in group A
In 2023-2024, schoolchildren in Malaysia have three additional periods of rest from school. For group A it is:
Celebration of Hari Raya Aidilfitri Holidays: April 20, 2023 (Thursday) to April 23, 2023 (Sunday);
Celebration of Hari Raya Hazhi: from June 28, 2023 (Wednesday) to June 29, 2023 (Thursday);
Diwali (Deepavali) Holidays * : from November 12, 2023 (Sunday) to November 13, 2023 (Monday).

In addition to regular vacations, children do not go to school on big holidays. Here are the dates of such holidays for group B for the 2023-2024 academic year:
